1938 in the greige - no finish
style 1938 heat cleaned CS210 finish fiberglass cloth
Style 1938 is a 26.8 ounce per square yard eight harness satin weave E-Glass fiberglass fabric that uses the yarn ECK 1/0 in the warp and ECG 37 1/2 in the fill. It has a thread count of 45 x 36 ends/inch and is 0.026" thick. All 1938 being offered here is either "in the greige" pronounced the same as the color gray though not the color and French for loom state as in no post weaving processing done or the 1938 in this list is Heat Cleaned as indicated.  Style 1938 is very similar to the more common style 1584 with the major differences being the filament size used in the yarn and the amount of twist. 1938 uses the 13 micron K yarn in the warp compared to 1584's 9 micron G filament size. 1938 has one flat yarn made up of these 13 micron filaments where 1584 has 2 bundles of 2 strands twisted of the G filament fibers or 4 bundles total with two twisted pairs. 1938 does use the 9 micron G filament glass in the fill yarn making 1584 versus 1938 in the fill more competitive with 1584 using 4 half size bundles versus 2 for the same weight by the 1938. We have stored in this big building of ours quite a bit of style 1938 in mostly 38.5" width material with some 29.5" in either heat cleaned or "in the greige" . Photos at the top and below are Left Side "In The Greige" and on the right are Heat Cleaned.Greige will be the top and heat cleaned below it. Greige cloth is white and slippery. Heat cleaned, and unless heat cleaned and washed, will have a brownish tint in general. There is some various types of heat cleaned fiberglass finishing processes with the majority looking like the cloth in the photo with the brownish tint where some of the residue is left. This is also known as carmelization where the release agents have been cooked at a low temperature but not completely washed off. The cloth in the left, or top on cell phones, photo (Greige) still has the release agents from the weaving process and has a soft slippery feel to it. You can smell the release agents in fabric. Anyone that has been in a fiberglass plant knows this smell well. This cloth was manufactured by Clark-Schwebel now JPS Composites and being in Greige or heat cleaned has no shelf life or expiration date. There is nothing to deteriorate. CS210 and CS456 are numbers for similar heat cleaned fabrics. To give you an idea of the weight of a roll of this cloth the net weight of a 346 yard roll of 38.5" wide style 1938 in the greige is 622 lbs. Weight of cloth per running (linear yard) is 1.37 pounds for 29.5" and 1.8 pounds for 38 and 38-1/2" wide 1938. CS210, CS456 and CS486 are similar heat cleaned finishes. The list below is of actual rolls of style 1938 we have in our building at 710 West Green Drive, High Point NC. Rolls are in ascending order of width and yards. Net Weights are calculated as described with gross weights of rolls estimated. Final weights determined at time of shipment.
